Scoop! Madonna’s no bad mom, Jolie says

Of all the people who criticized Madonna’s adoption of Malawi-born David Banda, 1, you wouldn’t think Angelina Jolie would be among them. After all, the Oscar-winning humanitarian has also adopted an African child: daughter Zahara, 2, from Ethiopia.

Yet Angie seemed to be giving Madge grief in a recent interview with French magazine Gala. While she expressed sympathy for Madonna, saying, "I have been horrified by the attacks she’s been subjected to," she also appeared to condemn the Material Mom’s method of expanding her family.

Angelina was quoted as saying, "Madonna knew the situation in Malawi. … It’s a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption. Personally, I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal."

But before gossip hounds even had a chance to contemplate the prospect of a celeb catfight of A-list magnitude, Saint Angelina quickly quashed rumors of a beef.

"The article included many falsehoods," the actress-activist clarified in a Monday statement, according to People. "I said many positive things that were omitted. I feel we must focus on the present and I encourage everyone to be supportive so that every child can adjust nicely to their new home."

Way to be diplomatic, Angie! Hey, she’s not a U.N. goodwill ambassador for nothing.

Bindi’s breakout

Is the sudden stardom of little Bindi Irwin, 8, healthy? On the one hand, it’s great that the beaming star of TV’s forthcoming "Bindi, the Jungle Girl" is so upbeat and outgoing even following the tragic death of her father, Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin. But is the sudden spotlight — set to include visits to "The Ellen Degeneres Show" and David Letterman’s "Late Show" and two concert appearances with the Wiggles — too much too soon?

Bindi’s manager says no. "There’s no pressure on her to do anything at all," John Stainton told Australian radio Tuesday. As far as public appearances are concerned, "My criteria is, if Bindi doesn’t want to do it that day, if she wants to go to the zoo or the beach, then that’s what we’re doing."

The media blitz, scheduled to promote the late wildlife expert’s new TV documentary,"Ocean’s Deadliest," is bound to be bittersweet for Bindi and mom Terri, as the little girl was originally supposed to be appearing with her dad.

So, PR will take a back seat to Bindi’s personal needs. Stainton says she’ll be free to opt out of any appearance "if she’s tired or she doesn’t want to do it." Let’s hope that’s the real deal. The adorable tyke certainly has star quality, and so far she seems to be handling the limelight just fine. We’re rooting for you, Bindi!

Manson Family Matters

The unholy union of "Antichrist Superstar" goth rocker Marilyn Manson and burlesque dancer Dita von Teese seemed to fall under the category of "so crazy it just might work." So it was actually a sad shock to hear that the oddly compatible odd couple had grown apart, with Dita filing for divorce over the holidays. Now, a report in the U.K.’s The Sun suggests that Marilyn’s drug-fueled partying was what broke up the marriage.

A source told the British tabloid, "Dita just had enough of [Marilyn’s] wild partying. Lindsay Lohan was always ringing up the house wanting to come ’round and party with him." (L.L. hanging with M.M.? Now there’s a truly odd couple.)

"And he became paranoid as a result of the drugs he was taking," the source adds. "At one stage, he thought the cleaner was trying to kill him."

Despite her stage persona, the erotic entertainer has a secret conventional streak, adds her pal: "Dita wants a quieter life and to have a baby. She told Manson to sort himself out or she was leaving. Unfortunately, nothing changed and he didn’t clean up his act."

Just goes to show, every married couple struggles with the same issues of family and commitment — regardless of how much makeup they wear.
