Scoop: 'Gossip Girl' star's family secret

"Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester reportedly did time in prison — when she was just a baby. Now that’s hard-core! According to Star, the actress hides the fact that she was born behind bars, while her mother did time for drug trafficking.

According to the tabloid, Leighton’s mom was serving a federal sentence in Texas when the future TV It Girl was born. She was allowed to deliver her daughter in a halfway house but had to return to the slammer when Leighton was 3 months old — at which point the infant was raised by a relative until her mother was free.

The actress’ official bio claims she was born in Florida, which, according to Star, is where the family moved in the late 1980s. The tabloid also claims that other members of the Meester family, including Leighton’s father, grandfather, and aunt, also did serious prison time for dealing drugs.

Once again, real life proves more scandalous than anything scriptwriters could come up with! If this is true, they’ve got to find a way to work it into a “Gossip” plot line.

Fears for Amy

Amy Winehouse may have brain damage after multiple drug overdoses, according to a report in Britain’s Mail. Doctors have allegedly observed what could be symptoms of schizophrenia and have warned the troubled chanteuse that another OD could kill her.

When the “Rehab” singer was rushed to the emergency room in August 2007, the report claims, she had indulged in cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, ketamine, and crystal meth in the course of one bender. At that time, doctors are said to have advised psychiatric treatment after she evinced “multiple personality traits.”

And although her father blamed her most recent ER visit, this past July, on a medication interaction, a friend insists that in fact Amy “had smoked an inhuman amount of hash which resulted in acute cannabis poisoning. You have to take a [ton] of pot to to suffer that severe reaction.”

“It is thought she had been smoking it for 36 hours,” explains the source. “Amy’s fits were as bad as the convulsions she had during her overdose in August last year.”

“She is in need of years of psychiatry and medical treatment if she has a hope,” adds the pal.

No doubt. Plus, we’d like to point out that the pressure of supporting that ginormous beehive can’t be good for her brain either.

Pete Passes Out?

Speaking of British musicians and overdoses, a report in the U.K.’s Sun claims that notoriously substance-hoovering rocker Pete Doherty had to be revived by medics before a recent Austria show.

The Babyshambles frontman was set to play a solo gig — but allegedly collapsed after a bender. An ambulance was called, and Pete was brought back to consciousness. When he declined to seek medical attention, the show went on after a mere four-hour delay.

Now that’s professionalism! Well, by Pete’s standards, anyway.

Elton and Lily’s Spat

Since we’re on a roll with Brit popwrecks, let’s take a moment to feel sorry for Lily Allen, who doubtless woke up Wednesday morning (or afternoon) with a horrible headache — and a massive sense of embarrassment. While co-hosting the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London Tuesday night, the “Smile” singer got into a spat with her fellow co-host Elton John.

According to the New York Daily News, Lily was helping herself to a bottle of champagne behind the podium. As the sloppy singer began to present an award, saying it was “the most important part of the night,” Elton snapped, “What, you are going to have another drink?” Meow!

After cursing at him, Lily shot back, “I am 40 years younger than you and have my whole life ahead of me!” Again we say, meow!

Elton’s returning volley: “I could still snort you under the table.” (Lily responded, “I don’t know what you are talking about.”)

So, to sum up, the theme of today’s Scoop! is: British pop stars may well be the wildest people on the planet. And to think here in the States we’re scandalized by the likes of Miley Cyrus.
