Scoop: Golden Globes pave way for Oscars

How will Golden Globe Award winners Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, Jared Leto and Leonardo DiCaprio fare at the Academy Awards?

Sunday’s Globes is a good predictor of Oscar nods — though the Hollywood Reporter points out that’s not always true.

The Hollywood Foreign Press (89 journalists giving out the Globes) and the Screen Actors Guild (thousands of actors) are composed of people who aren’t necessary among the Oscar-giving 6,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Yet it looks as though “12 Years A Slave,” “American Hustle” and “Gravity” are sure bets for best picture nods. And there’s buzz for Blanchett in “Blue Jasmine,” Adams for “American Hustle,” Leto for “Dallas Buyers Club” and DiCaprio for “Wolf of Wall Street.”

This year’s Oscar nominations will be announced Thursday. Stay tuned!
