Scoop: Cameron, model beau going strong

Funny — we totally thought the only reason that Cameron Diaz hooked up with model Paul Sculfor was to get back at his ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, for dating Cam’s former flame, John Mayer. (Well, that, and that Paul’s really hot.) But now Jen and John are kaput, while Cam and Paul are still going strong. Oh, the irony!

The happy pair were sighted by Page Six spies at the Maldives’ Four Seasons resort, enjoying a romantic getaway. Reportedly, they shared a large bungalow right on the water.

And Cam was true to her athletic real-guys’-girl image during the vacay. “They snorkeled, kayaked and she ate like a horse,” the observer relayed. (Presumably, as a model, Paul was watching his figure.)

And one other thing: The “Shrek” star was “wearing a chunky ring on her left ring finger.” Interesting.

We’re guessing that somewhere in Malibu right now, Jennifer Aniston is crying into her margarita.

Hayden: ‘Happy Family’?

Hayden Panettiere has finally spoken out about her father’s headline-making arrest for allegedly assaulting her mother. Alan “Skip” Panettiere was charged with felony domestic abuse on Aug. 11 after an argument with his wife Lesley at home. But until now, the 19-year-old “Heroes” star has been mum on the matter.

Now, she’s downplaying it big-time.

“It was blown way out of proportion by a sheriff who wanted his 15 minutes of fame,” Hayden insisted to “Extra.” “My family is wonderful,” the actress adds. “So very happy. We’re all great.”

Let’s hope she’s telling the truth. We would hate to think otherwise.

Paula: Jealous?

Paula Abdul sounds as if she’s less than thrilled about the addition of a new fourth judge, songwriter Kara DioGuardi, to the “American Idol” panel. In a recent radio show interview made after the hiring announcement, the diva claimed she was excited, yet admitted, “I am concerned about the audience and acceptance. Time will tell. We’ll see.”

After that tepid reception, Paula went on to explain that show brass “wanted to try a change,” noting, “They always tried for a fourth judge because it followed the format of the original [U.K.] show, ‘Pop Idol.’ We haven’t had much luck with that working, but we’re gonna give it another try.” Hmm, that didn’t sound too passive-aggressive.

Have she and fellow judging veterans Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson tried out their chemistry with Kara yet? Paula, as quoted on Usmagazine.com, simply laughed and said, “Nope.”

And the “Straight Up” singer also worries about the possibility of a tie between the four panelists: “That’s gonna be weird if it’s a split decision. I’m sure Simon will get to make the final [call].”

Paula added this last catty comment: “It takes the fun out of all the hard work I do to push those kids through.”

Relax, Paula. Judges can’t get voted off the show, so you’re not actually in competition with the newbie.
