Scoop: Brangelina denounce split rumors

Breakup rumors? What breakup rumors? Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were very much a couple at Saturday’s Directors Guild of America Awards, where he gave an introduction to “Inglorious Basterds” writer-director Quentin Tarantino. Though the actress hadn’t been expected to attend the event, she was by Brad’s side all night.

“They looked very giggly,” one observer told People magazine.

The power couple, recently beset with buzz of an impending split and a lawyer-mediated division of assets, seemed oblivious to such talk. Brad pulled out Angie’s chair for her and continually touched her back as they sat with his “Basterds” posse.

“They look like they are having a fun time,” one eyewitness said during the event. “It’s definitely a date.”

“They were extremely affectionate,” an observer said.

“They would whisper in each other’s ears and laugh,” another gawker told Us magazine. “They looked really happy.”

Well, that settles that! Right?

Having a ball

Lindsay Lohan has accepted an Austrian billionaire’s offer to be his celebrity guest at a ball — in exchange for about $150,000, the New York Post reported. The 77-year-old shopping mall impresario, who squires a different Hollywood star to the gala every year, isn’t expecting any physical contact, just some good PR.

But it turns out LiLo’s presence comes with some strings attached: Not only did the underemployed starlet ask to change the date of the historic ball, and hesitate to choose a gown ahead of time, her camp is anxious to keep her on the wagon.

“Her managers have told us to make sure that she doesn’t drink during her trip,” billionaire Richard Lugner said. “We have made arrangements to pull all the liquor from the minibar in the hotel room where she’ll stay, and told room service they are not to deliver drinks to her.”

So draconian are the restrictions that “we will be drinking only mineral water that night to avoid any problems.”

Well, you two crazy kids have fun.

Charlize: Single?

Charlize Theron has secretly split with longtime love Stuart Townsend, the U.K.’s Mail reported. Though the couple of nine years never wed, the Oscar winner has evidently removed a commitment ring the “Queen of the Damned” actor gave her.

“They had become more like brother and sister than lovers. It was she who ended it,” a source said, adding, “Stuart is gutted.”

“Charlize has remained in their main home in the Hollywood Hills, which is in her name, and he’s moved all his stuff into their Malibu beach home that they own together,” the source said. “They are sorting out their finances at the moment, as they have been together for so long that many of their financial affairs are intertwined.

“Charlize has never made a big deal of it, but the truth of the matter is that she has been the major breadwinner. She truly loved Stuart, but the relationship ran its course. He is heartbroken, but she is insisting it is all over.

“Charlize said she was surprised the story hadn’t come out yet. But she didn’t confirm it because she wanted to break the news in her own time.”

Though the actress said, “That’s crazy,” when asked about a split, she has been seen recently without the antique ring Stuart gave her as a symbol of commitment, which she previously had claimed she never took off.

Well, that’s a lot cheaper than a divorce, we suppose.

Paris and Doug getting engaged?

Expect to see a ring on Paris Hilton’s finger pretty soon. “I think in the next year you can see something happen,” beau Doug Reinhardt told reporters. “We are going to Brazil for Valentine’s Day for Carnivale, and I have a few tricks up my sleeve.”
The heiress, of course, has been engaged before.
