Save the dates: Two budget town halls

Cutting a growing $522 million deficit from The City’s budget this summer won’t be an easy task, so this year Mayor Gavin Newsom is asking for the public’s help.

He’ll be hosting two town hall meetings in February – an online meeting on the 24th and a more traditional, in-person, town hall on the 27th.

There will also be a Web site where city residents can submit ideas on how to close the deficit. You can also be your own budget director when sfbudget.org is up and running, cutting and taxing where you see fit.

Newsom, in his weekly YouTube address, said he was aware of where many residents may cut first.

“You can cut the mayor’s salary in half, and see if that can save you money someplace else,” Newsom said.
