San Mateo mother jailed for lying about sexual assault

A San Mateo mother is spending her first days in jail after admitting she lied about being sexually assaulted by a group of men.

Karyn Galila was handcuffed and taken into custody immediately Tuesday after being sentenced to 90 days in jail for filing a false police report.

The 24-year-old Galila had claimed last summer that had been sexually assaulted at gunpoint by a group of men after her car had supposedly broken down in Foster City.

After later admitting to making up the story, she pleaded no contest in December to one misdemeanor count of filing a false police report.

A probation report says she apparently fabricated the story to explain to her husband why she had come home late after meeting a man at a restaurant she had met online.

Galila's attorney had pleaded for leniency, arguing that she has a young child to care for.
