San Francisco woman with stroller fights off would-be robber

Police are hunting for a cowardly crook who attempted to rob a woman who was pushing a stroller in the Inner Richmond district Monday night.

The woman was walking with the stroller in the 600 block of Arguello Boulevard, which borders Rossi Park, about 7:35 p.m. when she felt someone tugging at the purse on her shoulder, according to the Richmond Police Station.

In response, the woman reportedly started to scream loudly. She also held on to her purse tightly.

But the suspect would not give up easily. He dragged the woman “several feet” while trying to rip the purse from her, police said. However, he reportedly failed and ended up fleeing with nothing.

The man was described only as being in his late teens and early 20s and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. He also was carrying a multicolored backpack, police said.

No arrest was reported as of Wednesday. Any witnesses are asked to notify police. Call the department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444, or send a tip by text to TIP411 and begin the message with “SFPD.”
