San Francisco: Places to go, people to see

A San Francisco nonprofit founded 60 years ago to save the then-endangered cable cars is asking people to answer the question "Why is San Francisco beautiful?" in the form of a video competition.

Participants are asked to post their entries online; the winners will be unveiled at San Francisco Beautiful’s 60th Anniversary Awards Dinner on Oct. 18 under the dome of San Francisco’s City Hall.

Submitted videos must be no more than one minute long and include the phrase "Why is San Francisco beautiful?" in their descriptive paragraph.

Three winning videos will be selected in these categories: Best Off the Beaten Track, Best New San Francisco Beautiful Icon and Citizens Working to Make San Francisco Beautiful.

To enter, post your videos online to the video hosting site of your choice (e.g. YouTube, Google Video, Blink, etc.) and e-mail the video link to video@sfbeautiful.org by Aug. 24.
