The Palo Alto Players present A.R. Gurney’s "Sylvia." The comic play — a community theater classic — involves a man, his wife, and a dog and the love triangle of sorts that they form. The show opens Saturday at 8 p.m. and continues through Sept. 30 at the Lucie Stern Theater, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. Tickets are $26 to $31.

Chamber music

The San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra performs a concert including world-premiere excerpts from Lisa Scola Prosek’s opera "Trap Door" and David Graves’ "Life Is Like That" for chamber orchestra and electronics. It’s at 8 p.m. Saturday at Old First Presbyterian Church, 1751 Sacramento St., San Francisco.
