  • The Tour of California will only have one Bay Area stop this year, a stage 3 ride from San Jose to Mt. Diablo.
The Amgen Tour of California announced route details for its 2014 race Thursday and San Francisco will not be part of the race for the first time since 2011.

Last year, the final stage started in San Francisco and ended in Santa Rosa, but the Bay Area will only be part of one stage of this year’s race, which runs May 11-18. The third stage on May 13 starts in San Jose and winds its way to a finish atop Mt. Diablo.

After the 2013 race started in Southern California and finished in Northern California, the race will return to the traditional north-to-south route this year.

The opening stage begins and ends at the Capitol building in Sacramento.

The race will cover more than 740 miles in total and culminate with a circuit race in Thousand Oaks.
