San Francisco Media Co. names new vice president of operations

Aaron Barbero has joined the San Francisco Media Co. as vice president of operations, bringing more than 25 years of newspaper, circulation, information technology and pressroom experience.

Barbero will be responsible for overseeing the circulation and IT operations at San Francisco Media Co., which owns The San Francisco Examiner and SF Weekly newspapers.

The Lancaster native comes to San Francisco after working 24 years at the Antelope Valley Press in Palmdale, where he most recently served as circulation and IT manager.

"I'm thrilled to be adding someone to our staff who has over 20 years of successful newspaper operations experience," San Francisco Media Co. Publisher Glenn Zuehls said Monday.

After managing at a daily newspaper with a circulation of about 20,000, Barbero expressed excitement at the new challenge of overseeing a publication with a 255,000 Sunday circulation at The Examiner.

"For me, it's pure excitement, just seeing the amount of newspapers that go out every day and making sure that they get to everybody that want to read them," Barbero said. "It's going to be a challenge and I really look forward to being able to jump in and make us a great newspaper."

Having lived his entire life in the Lancaster area, Barbero noted that his move to San Francisco is not just a job change, but a complete lifestyle change. He says he is encouraged by the opportunities that will be provided working in the world-renowned city of San Francisco, where "there's always news going on."

As the new operations executive, Barbero said his primary focus will be on ensuring a strong product.

"I want San Francisco to want us," he said. "I want San Francisco to think when they think newspapers, they think us, and whatever it takes to get there, that's the goal."
