San Francisco man tries to force cops to kill him

A man who announced on the Internet his desire to have cops shoot him dead injured three officers during a struggle in a South of Market apartment building Tuesday, police said.

Cops were called to the building in the unit block of Perry Street about 5 p.m. on a report of a madman who had assaulted a neighbor and building manager, police said.

When he confronted a cop, he allegedly stated he had a gun that he planned to use.

The cop drew his gun and requested back up. Meanwhile, the suspect simulated reaching for a weapon multiple times, police said. Another cop grabbed the suspect from behind and wrestled him to the ground, launching a violent struggle.

During the melee, the suspect allegedly spit on a cop and tried to bite him while claiming he had a contagious disease. Pepper-spray was used to no apparent affect, and another cop “was forced to punch the suspect multiple times with a closed fist,” police said.

A cop suffered a contusion after his head struck a wall during the fight, police said. Another cop had claw marks on his face, and a third sustained serious hand injuries.

Investigators said that before the incident, the suspect posted on a social networking website that he planned to “check out. Tonight is the night.”

“OK, the cops are coming here, I’m gonna pretend to have a gun and they will shoot me, remember the movie Butch Cassidy,” he stated, according to police.
