San Francisco is No. 3 travel destination in US, study says 

San Francisco is a more desirable place to take a trip than Las Vegas or San Diego, but not as much as New York or Honolulu, according to a new survey.

Trip Advisor, a travel information website, released its 2011 Travelers’ Choice rankings on Tuesday, which placed San Francisco as the No. 3 in its list of top destinations in the United States.

New York City topped the list, and Honolulu, Hawaii, came in second.


The top 10:

1. New York City, New York

2. Honolulu, Hawaii

3. San Francisco, California

4. Las Vegas, Nevada

5. Lahaina, Hawaii

6. Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

7. New Orleans, Louisiana

8. San Diego, California

9. Sedona, Arizona

10. Seattle, Washington

The company also released its top destinations in the world, which was topped by Cape Town, South Africa.
