Following reports that Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi’s wife, Eliana Lopez, sought immunity from prosecution for her testimony in her husband’s domestic violence case, District Attorney George Gascón said Thursday he has no intention of charging her.
“Quite frankly we’re really confused” as to why Lopez is requesting immunity, Gascón said.
Lopez has been named as a potential witness in Mirkarimi’s trial, scheduled to take place later this month. He has been charged with three misdemeanors – domestic violence battery, child endangerment and dissuading a witness – in connection with an alleged New Year’s Eve incident in which the couple’s 2-year-old son was present.
