San Carlos burglar uses dog door to get keys to BMW

A burglar made off with a fancy car after ransacking a San Carlos home Wednesday, but the method of entry apparently was not so glamorous.

The intruder apparently used the dog door to enter a home in the 1000 block of Ruby Avenue, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

The residents of the home were away on vacation when the thief broke in sometime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. A neighbor called to report the crime about 8 p.m.

While the point of entry was the dog door, the thief's exit was far more comfortable, according to sheriff's deputies. The suspect apparently left through the front door with the keys to a BMW 525i that was parked in the driveway.

Aside from the car, it was not immediately clear if anything else was stolen. The residents will have to determine if any of their belongings are missing once they return home, sheriff's deputies said.
