Sacred Heart Cathedral romps

Tierra Rogers led 10 Sacred Heart Cathedral scorers with 12 points as the host Irish beat Notre Dame of Belmont 63-34 in a West Catholic Athletic League prep girls’ basketball opener.

Ki-Ki Moore added 10 points and nine rebounds for Sacred Heart (11-0, 1-0 WCAL), which began the game on a 12-0 run and led by as many as 35 points in the second half. The Irish had not had a home game since Nov. 31 and spent the month of December traveling to play in some of the nation’s most competitive tournaments. They returned with a perfect record, have now won 25 regular-season league games in a row and will likely be the top-ranked team in the country in USA Today’s next poll.

"Coach [Brian Harrigan] told us that since we’re at the top, everyone is going to give us their best and try to take us down," Moore said. "So we had to come out hard and set the tone right away."

Lauren Bell, Ashley Boggs and Kamilah Jackson each scored eight points for Sacred Heart and the Irish defense forced 23 turnovers. Jenna Mariano had eight points to lead the Tigers (9-4, 0-1).
