Ryan on debt deal: 'We're going in my direction.'

At a House Republican leadership press conference late this afternoon, House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., spoke out in favor of the debt deal. Ryan arguably has more currency with spending hawks in the Republican Party and the small government movement than Speaker Boehner or anyone else in the Republican Conference leadership, and so his comments are rather important. (C-SPAN has the video here, and Ryan is about 11 minutes in.)

"This gets us two-thirds of the cuts in discretionary spending we are looking in our budget...That's better than zero...I'll take two-thirds in my direction, then anything else.  And we're going in my direction."

Ryan refused bait from the press to bash Republicans who aren't satisfied with the depth of spending cuts in the agreement, remarking simply, "You'll have to ask those who feel that way."
