Runner prepares for Napa Valley Marathon 

San Francisco resident Devon Crosby-Helms will line up with the strong women’s elite field at Sunday’s Napa Valley Marathon.
She scored her first marathon victory at the 2007 event with a time of 2 hours 52 minutes 49 seconds.

Where do you like to train in the Bay Area?

My favorite places to train are the Marin Headlands and Mount Tam.

When did you start running?

My first marathon was in 2005.

You also are a certified personal chef. What is your favorite thing to eat when training and before a race?

Pre-race and during training my favorite food is sushi.

What prompted you to make the transition from marathons to ultramarathons?

I wanted more of a challenge.

How will the Napa marathon fit into your training schedule as you prepare for the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run in June?

Napa will give me a good gauge of where my speed is after a few months of hard training on the trails.

What do you say to people who think running 100 kilometers is crazy?

You are right, it is crazy — crazy fun and challenging.
