Ruling expected on Haight Street Market expansion plans

A Haight Ashbury neighborhood market’s expansion plans will be considered this week by city officials.

The San Francisco Planning Commission is scheduled to rule Thursday on permit applications filed by owners of the Haight Street Market, which is proposed to be doubled in size.

The proposal is supported by the Haight Ashbury Improvement Association.

The expansion would increase fresh food shopping options in the area. It would lead to the closure of the Massawa Restaurant, which is next door to the 29-year-old market.
