Robber in Outer Mission was extra cruel

A man walking home in the Outer Mission last weekend got the scare of his life when a robber pointed a gun at him and pulled the trigger twice, though no bullets came out, police said.

Officers responded to the unit block of Concord Street, near Mission Street, about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on the robbery call.

The victim told police the thug stormed up to him saying, "If you don't want to die tonight, give me your backpack now."

Although the man gave up his backpack, the crook without warning pulled the trigger twice.

"But nothing happened," police said, and the suspect fled.

The man ran home to call police. The suspect wasn't found after a search of the area.

In the end, the gunman didn't get much of value during the robbery.

The backpack "only had dog treats inside," police said.

A description of the suspect wasn't immediately available.
