‘Robber Bridegroom’ comes to life onstage

Stars and Garters Theatre Co. — known for putting on dark and ridiculous comedies — presents "The Robber Bridegroom," a musical fable laced with puppetry, verse, murder and a curse.

Adapted from a Brothers Grimm tale and written and directed by Stars and Garters founding member Jenny Jo Kristan, the show tells the story of the promiscuous Rosebud Featherhead and the villainous Edward Mustardseed. Under normal circumstances, these two would not be bound for marriage. But things change dramatically when they both consume a forest hag’s long-buried potion which causes them to fall head over heels in love.

Performances are this weekend and next at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Voice Factory, 1519 Mission St. (beweetn South Van Ness Avenue and 11th Street), San Francisco. Tickets are $12 to $20 sliding scale. For details, visit voicefactorysf.org and for tickets, visit browpapertickets.com.
