Rob Ford not ‘elected to be perfect’

Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford laughed off Jimmy Kimmel’s suggestion that he get help for his drinking problem during his guest spot on the late-night TV talk show.

Ford’s appearance Monday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in Los Angeles was the culmination of months of wooing by the host to get the wild politician on the show.

But when Kimmel told Ford, “If you are an alcoholic, drinking enough that you would try crack in your 40s and you don’t remember it, maybe that’s something that you might want to think about, like, talking to somebody,” the mayor threw back his head and laughed before saying he “wasn’t elected to be perfect.”

“I was elected to clean up the mess that I inherited, and that’s exactly what I did,” Ford said.

Back in Toronto on Tuesday, Ford said he knew he “was going into the lion’s den” and would face tough questions. “I don’t have any personal issues. We’ve gone down that road before,” he added.

Meanwhile, Canada’s National Post reported that Kimmel’s Facebook page was peppered with comments accusing the host of being mean-spirited and nasty.
