Riordan’s Harlan repeats as All-WCAL first-teamer 

Riordan left-hander Tom Harlan was named first-team All-West Catholic Athletic League in baseball for the second season in a row Tuesday.

The Fresno State-bound senior went 7-1 with a 0.92 ERA this year, striking out 72 and allowing just 45 hits in 68¹/³ innings pitched for the Crusaders (16-15). St. Ignatius senior outfielder Ryan McWhirter joined him on the first team, while St. Ignatius infielder Paul Toboni and Riordan outfielder Pat Burford were named to the second team and Sacred Heart Cathedral pitcher Steve Dea, SI pitcher Jon Rand, Sacred Heart infielder Eric Barreneche, SI outfielder David Schaefer, Riordan catcher Anthony Oropeza and Riordan utility player Alex Bray were honorable mention.

In softball, St. Ignatius utility player Trinity Leonard was named first-team All-WCAL. SI shortstop Catrina Gotuaco, SI outfielder Alyssa Sangalang, Sacred Heart outfielder Meghan McGuire and Sacred Heart catcher-third baseman Stephanie Lee made the second team and SI catcher Victoria Eng and Sacred Heart catcher-third baseman Giselle Canada were honorable mention.

In other WCAL sports, Alex Kranenburg (St. Ignatius), Zachary Lent (Sacred Heart Cathedral) and Matt Baumann (Riordan) were on the boys’ golf first team and Matt Micheli (St. Ignatius) was named a first-teamer in boys’ tennis. Micheli’s teammates Nick Bonn, Adam Greenberg and Justin Chan were named to the second team and Sacred Heart’s Sean Boissy, Eric Tan and Kristian Datangle and SI’s Juri Jacoby were honorable mention. Sacred Heart’s Brandon Chui was on the second team in boys’ volleyball, with SI’s Tim Gorospe and Sacred Heart’s Sam Almukdad earning honorable mention.
