Rev. Jackson: Gilbert treats LeBron like ‘runaway slave’

In the aftermath of Lebron James’ free agency flight to Miami, the Rev. Jesse Jackson demonstrated his ability as a sports psychologist, in addition to his regular role as a racial demagogue.

After Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert published an open letter accusing Lebron James of everything short of killing kittens, Jackson weighed in on the issue with his usual panache. “He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers,” Jackson said of Gilbert. “His feelings of betrayal personify a slave-master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave.”

To liken one of the world’s wealthiest athletes to a slave is to disrespect the memory of real slaves, isn’t it? Jackson seems unconcerned. And it’s not as though Jackson, who once said he wanted to “cut his [Barack Obama's] nuts out” — a brutal punishment once occasionally administered by Southern lynch mobs — is above treating African-Americans like he owns all of them and their opinions.
