Residents of the Belleair neighborhood of San Bruno and members of the community group San Bruno ACORN met this week with Public Works Director Jane Chambers this week to demand that speed bumps be installed on Third Avenue, a street nearby residents say has been plagued with traffic. City officials have maintained that they are looking at a number of areas for traffic-calming measures and that Belleair residents will have to go through the proper process before any speed-reducing work is completed in their area.
Free compost for gardeners available this weekend
Foster City residents can help their gardens this spring and summer with free compost from the city and RethinkWaste.
With a shovel, gloves, containers and proof of residency, residents can get up to a cubic yard of free compost from Boat Park at Foster City Boulevard and Bounty Drive on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or as long as supplies last. The compost ismade up of yard trimmings collected by the city from residents during the year. Compost also helps keep organic waste out of local landfills.
Alleged burglar charged with attempted rape, assault
An alleged burglar detained by family after breaking into their home Monday night is now being charged with attempted rape in addition to burglary and assault on a person, police said. Jose Gonzalez-Galdamez, 30, allegedly removed his shoes before entering the Claremont Avenue home just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The mother awoke to a burglar standing near her and, after a struggle, he was detained. Gonzalez-Galdamez, a neighbor of the victims, gave conflicting statements to the police and his pants were unzipped at the time of arrest.
