Research says tech companies are coming to San Francisco

Tech companies are rapidly making San Francisco their new home, even in the face of an increasing vacancy rate among office buildings.

According to Grubb & Ellis, a local market research group, San Francisco’s office market took another hit with the vacancy rate increasing to 18.3 percent — up 70 points from the first quarter of 2010.

But technology companies are accounting for a majority of the space that is being leased, a trend that is expected to continue the rest of the year, according to Grubb & Ellis.
