Report: RI lawmaker in rehab after marijuana bust

State Rep. Robert Watson says he has checked into to in-patient rehabilitation following his second arrest on marijuana possession charges.

WJAR-TV reports that Watson, the former House Republican leader, said he was seeking help after he was arrested late Saturday night in South Kingstown.

Police say a snow plow operator reported he was driving erratically on a flat tire late Saturday night. Police say they found a pipe used to smoke marijuana and suspected marijuana.

Watson is awaiting trial in a 2011 incident in East Haven, Conn., where he was charged with marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence. He has pleaded not guilty.

His lawyer, Jack O'Donnell, told the Providence Journal it's too early to know what impact the recent charge could have on Watson's Connecticut case.
