Redwood City student arrested on sex charges

Police have arrested a Redwood City high school student on suspicion of attempting to rape an employee at his school.

The San Jose Mercury News (http://bit.ly/xZZDW9) reports that 19-year-old David Velasquez was taken into custody Tuesday on suspicion of attempted sexual assault of a 29-year-old San Francisco woman.

He is being held in San Mateo County Jail.

Redwood City police say Velasquez brandished a knife at the woman in the Summit Preparatory Charter High School garage Monday night, and forced her toward her car. Authorities say Velasquez was then interrupted by another employee who came upon the scene, and ran off.

Investigators did not say what duties the employee performs at the school. Summit Executive Director Todd Dixon says the school has not yet decided what action to take against Velasquez.
