Red Hawk mounts $500K in giveaways

Red Hawk Casino’s current big promotion offers a half-million dollars in cash and prizes in drawings every Friday and Saturday evening in February and March.

While not Red Hawk’s biggest single cash promotion, “it’s certainly the longest-running,” sales and promotions manager Mark Ward said. There will be more winners — 176 — than in any single event Red Hawk has ever had.

To participate, players must be Red Hawk Casino Rewards Club members. Sometimes customers are reluctant to sign up for a casino’s rewards club, but it is worth the effort and takes only a moment. Even infrequent players can take advantage of food and other discounts.

Players earn entries by using their Rewards Card playing either slots or table games to accumulate points, and are entered into drawings electronically. Players get one entry for every 25 points, and they can accumulate points over the life of the promotion. Over time and by playing, the odds of winning increase, Ward said.

The drawings at the Stage Bar: four winners of $500 each at 7 p.m., four winners of $1,000 each at 8 p.m. and three winners for cash up to $5,000 or a new Mini Cooper at 9 p.m. Red Hawk plans to give away up to 16 Mini Coopers.

Red Hawk has a good mix of customers from the Sacramento area and the Bay Area. While most customers are day-trippers, for those who want an extended trip, Red Hawk has partnered with several local hotels. The Placerville area has tourism and historic Gold Country venues, an intriguing downtown, the Apple Hill area and a number of wineries.

Players club members can get hotel discounts, and in a single transaction, Red Hawk can make reservations, Ward said.

Currently, new Rewards Club members get a rebate for 25 percent on their first trip’s slot play up to $400 that will be credited for use on the player’s next trip to Red Hawk casino.

There is daily bus service to Red Hawk from San Francisco and Oakland. The bus trips run between $10 and $15, and Red Hawk has a package of about $15 in rebates.

It is an easy freeway drive, too: Take Interstate 80 to Sacramento, then U.S. Highway 50 east toward Placerville and exit at Red Hawk Parkway.

Red Hawk is owned by the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians and is managed under contract by Lakes Entertainment Inc.
