Red Carpet: SF Opera celebrates wild ‘West’ 

‘Sundown at the Golden West Saloon’: The San Francisco Opera Guild hosted a themed gala May 27 at the Bently Reserve to honor music director Nicola Luisotti, along with celebrating the opening of the 2010 summer season and the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s “The Girl of the Golden West.” The Gold Rush-flavored event was hosted by honorary chairs John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn and co-chairs Chandra Friese and Linda Elliott Zider.

The power of female philanthropists

Women Changing the World Luncheon: On Wednesday, the San Francisco Foundation hosted a benefit event at its offices, featuring a meal and discussion. Donors, their daughters, granddaughters, nieces and sisters joined philanthropy experts such as Beth Brown, Vanitha Venugopal and Denise Martin in a conversation about women’s high-engagement philanthropy.

Top-quality student art on view

Academy of Art University Spring Show: Following their commencement, art students gathered May 27 at campuses on Brannan Street and New Montgomery Street to view work selected by department directors and industry leaders as the best in class. Eighteen exhibits representing 16 departments comprised the show.
