Red Carpet: It’s easy being green 

Green Ball: Friends of the Earth, an environmental advocacy group, celebrated in a luminary-filled benefit event May 21 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. The party featured food, live music and a “Green Hero” awards ceremony. Honorees included Tom Hormel, Zem Joaquin and Aitan Grossman.

Exploratorium honors scientists

Exploratorium’ Awards Dinner: On May 20 at its 33rd annual event, Genentech board chairman and former CEO Arthur Levinson received the Director’s Award. Also recognized were: Science writer Timothy Ferris, and scientist and educator of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Co-chairs were Sandy and Paul Otellini, Dr. Susan Desmond-Hellmann and Nick Hellmann, and Bill Rutter.

Tenderloin neighborhood bash

TNDC Birthday Gala: The Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation held its annual birthday party May 20 to celebrate 29 years of providing affordable housing and support for low-income people. Charles and Paola Casey hosted, and news anchor Cheryl Jennings was the mistress of ceremonies.
