Red Carpet: Flower power at de Young 

Bouquets to Art: The San Francisco Auxiliary of the Fine Arts Museums 2010 flower festival kicked off last week at the de Young Museum with a gala and preview of the 150 floral arrangements making up the show. Dining, music and a parade of models in gowns made of real flowers, created specially by students in environmental design at Bay Area colleges, rounded out the colorful, popular, fundraising event.


ZinZanni’s first decade

Teatro ZinZanni  anniversary: Disco diva and Grammy winner Thelma Houston graced the waterfront spiegeltent last weekend in “Hearts on Fire,” the current edition of the show now marking its 10th anniversary in San Francisco. The theatrical extravaganza celebrated with a special gala performance Saturday.


Bringing hope to girls in India

‘An Evening for Hope House’: A celebration of Indian music — featuring tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain — and cuisine was held last week at Carolands Chateau in Hillsborough to benefit Hope House, a legacy project of the Oscar-winning film “Born into Brothels.” Proceeds from the event will provide assistance to young girls from Sonagachi, the largest red-light district in Calcutta, India.
