‘Record producer’ pilfers expensive watch from Union Square jewelry store

A so-called "record producer" said he needed something with more "bling" before he ran off with an expensive watch from a jewelry store in the Union Square area on Sunday, police said.

The suspect, described as a man in his 30s, entered the store in the 200 block of Grant Avenue about 1:45 p.m. and asked to see several rings for his fiancé.

He told the store employee that he was a record producer and that he'd like to see some watches as well, police said.

The sales woman showed him a watch and he said he needed something with more bling. She then handed him a platinum watch with a diamond face and bezel, police said. The man put the watch on his wrist and looked at himself in the mirror.

When the sales woman asked for the watch back, he fled the scene on foot with the watch.

No arrest has been made.
