Muni will begin broadcasting public service announcements asking people to be aware of their surroundings, and police will step up patrols of the T-Third Street line in response to three assaults on that route in the past three months — one that resulted in an 83-year-old man dying.
All three involved several 14- to 16-year-old boys attacking someone on a Muni vehicle or platform, and police are investigating whether the cases are related.
In the most-recent case, a 29-year-old riding a T-Third train was punched repeatedly by several boys. Police Officer Samson Chan said there’s no video of the assault, and did not know whether there was a camera on the train.
