Rec and Park to clear up Dolores Park rumors

For all the people who agonized about rumors that Dolores Park would close for more than a year, there will be a meeting clarifying that it’s premature for Rec and Park to make those decisions.

It was an Internet sensation when there was a miscommunication about how the park would be on hiatus for the entirety of its $11.7 million, 16-month renovation that is scheduled to start in December next year.

But as with any closure, Rec and Park was relying on public meetings during the design process to talk about the timeline months before construction. Not this early.

But a cyclone of calls, reports, Facebook groups and status updates inspired Rec and Park officials to set the record straight.

The problem is they still can’t decide when or how long what parts will be closed, and have only been able to say it could be closed for months at a time like any other park.

So go to the meeting with Supervisor Bevan Dufty and Rec and Park officials on March 3 if you’re still interested, but don’t expect any solid answers because it’s still premature. It’s at 6 p.m. in Dolores Park Church at 455 Dolores St.
