Rain cancels work on L-Taraval this weekend

A drizzly forecast has forced the cancellation of construction plans for Muni’s rail-replacement project on the L-Taraval line this weekend.

The work to replace the 30-year-old rail lines in the Sunset District was supposed to resume on Friday afternoon and last until early-morning Monday. The project started on January 8, and was scheduled to include two more weekends of work, including this weekend, and the weekend of January 22.

However, with forecasts calling for a heavy dose of rain on Saturday and Sunday, the construction work has been cancelled this weekend and pushed back to the following Friday, according to Kristen Holland of the Municipal Transportation Agency. The finish date of the project has been moved back to the weekend of January 29 because of the delay.

The replacement of the L-Taraval line is part of an $18 million project to rehabilitate portions of MTA’s aging rail infrastructure. The agency completed a similar project late last year on the N-Judah line.
