Rail depot turned art center offering internships

A former rail depot that is in the midst of being transformed into an art center is offering nearly 20 paid internships for local youths.

The Geneva Car Barn and Powerhouse, located at the intersection of Geneva and San Jose avenues near the Balboa Park BART Station, was part of The City’s initial rail network, but it has been vacant and abandoned for the past 21 years.

As part of a larger city plan to rejuvenate the area, the Car Barn is slated for a new life as an arts center. This month, the new art center is handing out 19 paid internships for apprenticeships at its theater arts and audio production programs. The internships will go toward youths located in the Excelsior district, where the center is located. More information about the internship opportunities is available at the Geneva Car Barn’s website.
