New York’s Nina Davuluri on Sunday became the first woman of Indian descent to be crowned Miss America, and idiots in the Twitterverse immediately made their displeasure known.

“Arab,” “Muslim,” “terrorist” and “Miss Al Qaeda” were all tossed around, according to Radar Online.

“I don't normally care about Miss America,” wrote everyone’s favorite friend on Facebook, actor George Takei, “but the uproar over an Indian-American winning (whom many decried for being "Arab") has me shaking my head. Please tell me I'm not alone in wondering whether we've learned anything at all.”

It’s hard to tell if there are more jerks around now that there is social media or if social media just makes it a lot easier for the jerks to air their ignorance. Hopefully it’s the latter.
