Pumpkin curry among many choices at Spice Me Thai 

Half Moon Bay, home of giant pumpkins and a huge pumpkin festival, now has pumpkin curry and other specialties from Thailand at Spice Me Thai Cuisine. The restaurant is in the downtown space that once housed La Di Da Cafe, and its chef hails from the nearby Bangkok House Restaurant. Start with the papaya salad, several spring rolls and tom kha goong, a fragrant coconut soup with prawns and lemongrass. (The soups are available in two serving sizes.) Skewered meat satays are popular, as are curries, both meat and vegetable (including pumpkin). Noodle dishes run from the classic kao soi to ubiquitous pad thai. Larger plates include Sainoi duck, a tamarind glazed crispy duck confit. The menu is over 100 choices strong, offering something for everyone. Many selections are indeed full of spice _ no doubt led by the volcanic beef in lava sauce. Spice Me’s 30-seat dining room has a modern, airy feel and a casual-meets upscale atmosphere, with a tall ceiling, white tablecloths, hardwood flooring and a wall-length red banquette.

South San Francisco

South San Francisco’s new Westborough Square continues to unveil its dining lineup, and Bonchon Chicken is the latest opening. It’s the second Bay Area outpost of a franchise that has more than 100 cafes across the U.S. and Southeast Asia. The spotlight is on Korean fried chicken — wings, drumsticks or boneless strips — served with signature hot sauce or soy garlic marinade. Small plates include a seafood scallion pancake; traditional large dishes, including bibimbap, also are available. It’s a bustling space, with a bright sit-down dining room, a small bar and plenty of TVs for watching the 49ers — with wings, of course.

Burlingame

Turkey and stuffing are on everyone’s minds this time of year, but it’s also the season of a beloved forest fungi and a cult-favorite wine. Piedmontese white truffles are the headliner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pizzeria Delfina in Burlingame’s autumn farm dinner. The longtime tradition at the original Delfina moves to the Peninsula. The four-course, $146 prix fixe meal includes a main dish of venison with white truffles and Kuri squash sformatino. Wine pairings from Cavalotto Wines are offered for an additional $50 per person.

Menlo Park

It’s also the season for Beaujoulais Nouveau, a popular French wine released, by law, every third Thursday of November (so as not to fall on Thanksgiving)? On Thursday, Left Bank Brasserie in Menlo Park offers a $46, three-course prix fixe menu for the event, and, of course, Beaujolais Nouveau by the glass, carafe and bottle.
