Public schools may increase job training

Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi's legislation that is intended to increase job-training curriculum in the San Francisco Unified School District comes before the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee on Monday.

The legislation would establish “public service academies” with the Police, Sheriff’s, Fire and Health departments developing a plan to establish courses for high school students that would prepare them for jobs in the related public-sector fields. The school district has similar programs in place preparing students for private-sector jobs.

The board’s Public Safety Committee meets Monday at 10 a.m., at City Hall in Room 250.
