A psychiatrist reportedly persuaded one of his patients, a Bayview district resident, to hand over his guns to police last weekend.

About 5:15 p.m. Sunday, the psychiatrist surrendered three guns — a rifle, shotgun and revolver, along with ammunition — on his patient’s behalf, according to Bayview Police Station.

All the weapons were legally owned, but apparently the doctor thought his patient shouldn’t have them right now. Further details were unavailable.

The patient’s name was not released.
