Promotional exam will be certified amid controversy

The “boy wonder,” the “most honest man in San Francisco” and a “test taker on steroids” were among the labels bestowed on San Francisco police Cmdr. David Lazar Friday evening in a hearing on allegations that he helped colleagues pass a promotional exam.

Lazar became the subject of an investigation after police Lt. Con Johnson, Civil Service Commissioner Morgan Gorrono and other anonymous officers complained that Lazar helped tutor his friends on a test that he then helped create and correct.

Needless to say, after the roomful of cops, neighborhood groups and even a couple clergymen were finished complimenting the man, the Civil Service Commission voted to exonerate Lazar of any wrongdoing.

And when Gorrono attempted to pass a motion to have the test regraded because there was a perception of bias, he found that he had quickly run out of allies and the motion was tabled. Expect the results from this test to be certified some time soon.
