Programs for youth shown the money

Six youth-led groups designed to empower juveniles in San Francisco were honored Friday night and given money to continue their programs.

Center for Young Women’s Development, Common Roots, pictured, Homey, Samoan Comunity Development Center, Adopt an Alleyway and California Youth Connection were all awarded $100,000 for their two-year campaigns. The funds come from the voter-approved Children’s Fund, which dedicates a small portion of property-tax revenues to support youths in The City up to 18 years old. Each group also received an award from Mayor Gavin Newsom.
