Problem Muni bus shelter in San Francisco’s Tenderloin could be removed

A problem Muni bus shelter in the Tenderloin district could be removed soon.

The stop, located on the corner of Hyde and Turk streets, attracts criminal elements to the troubled neighborhood, according to community activists.

Some residents have called for the transit shelter to be taken down, while others in the neighborhood said the stop is necessary for disabled and elderly passengers.

On Friday, an engineering panel of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which operates Muni, will vote on whether to recommend removal of the stop.

If the panel approves the recommendation, the matter will go for final authorization before the agency’s full board of directors at a later date.
