Private reward offered in Castro arsons 

The police and fire departments have already called on the public to help catch an arsonist who has put the Castro on edge, but one nurse in San Diego is hoping a reward will encourage a little public participation.

The woman, who didn’t want her name used, is putting up $5,000 of her own cash for anyone who can help catch the fire starter. In an interview, she says she has friends and family in the neighborhood. She also has a few choice words for arsonists.

“They come out at night like roaches,” she said. “That’s why they’re hard to catch without the public’s healp. ... This creep is obviously filled with rage.

We put in a call to police to see how this sort of thing works. Obviously, someone has to verify that this woman actually does have some money to offer. We’ll update when we hear back.

She also encouraged anyone else to throw in some money, just to sweeten the pot.
