Presidio Trust announces new leadership

The ongoing effort to transition the Presidio from a former Army post into a completely self-sufficient public entity now has new leadership behind it.

On Tuesday, the Presidio Trust, the federal group in charge of the national park, announced that its Board of Directors would be chaired by Nancy Hellman Bechtle, who became just the third person to steer the seven-person group.

Hellman Bechtle, a lifelong city resident, succeeds David Grubb, who served as chair of the board for the previous six years.

Hellman Bechtle has served on the Trust’s Board of Directors since January 2008, when she was appointed to the group by then-President George Bush.

The Presidio Trust was established in 1996 to manage the area, which formerly served as an Army outpost and is now part of the National Park Service. The Trust is governed by the seven-person board, six of whom are appointed by the US President. The other member is selected by the US Secretary of the Interior. The Department of the Interior oversees the National Park Service.
