Preps, jucos setting up futures

Serra High School running back De’Leon Eskridge will make it official today, signing a letter of intent to play football at Minnesota next fall. Today is the first day verbal commitments can be made official with binding contracts.

The senior ran for 832 yards and eight touchdowns on 144 carries last season for the Padres, and will be joined in a 9:15 a.m. ceremony in the school’s library by teammates J.P. Hurrell (a linebacker who will play at Cal) and Tiuke Tuipulotu (safety, San Jose State).

In The City, Lowell running back-defensive back Bismark Navarro will sign with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cardinals coach Danny Chan said. According to Chan, Navarro becomes the first Lowell player "in recent years" to earn a full scholarship. Meanwhile, at Riordan, coach Mike Langridge said he expects stars Darius Bell (quarterback-linebacker), Daniel Cannon (wide receiver-defensive back) and John Marman (running back-defensive back) to sign with Division I schools in the coming days.

City College of San Francisco and the College of San Mateo will send multiple players to four-year schools, including Tennessee-bound Rams linebacker Gerald Williams and Bulldogs defensive linemanBernard Wolfgramm, who is headed to Washington State. Each junior-college program expects several more players to sign shortly.
