Pot seized from apartment next to Oakland school

Oakland city and school police have seized more than $100,000 worth of marijuana and four guns from an apartment next to an elementary school.

The Oakland Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/AlAvqS) that the raid on Thursday night followed an investigation that began when a school police officer learned that marijuana was being grown at the apartment next to Cleveland Elementary School.

Police say numerous adults were seen coming and going from the apartment during a subsequent surveillance operation.

There was no indication that any young people were customers.

The raid turned up 40 mature marijuana plants, 220 seedlings and about 20 pounds of either packaged or drying marijuana.

A 33-year-old man was arrested although police did not release his identity.

Police said they also seized evidence indicating marijuana was being mailed to other states from the apartment.
