Police, sheriff merger a tough sell

Supervisor Chris Daly is trying again to gain support from his colleagues to place on the November ballot a charter amendment that would merge the Police Department into the Sheriff’s Department and put it all under the leadership of the sheriff.

His colleagues have been reluctant to support such a measure. On Thursday, the Board of Supervisors Rules Committee will hold a second hearing on the proposal. It would require at least six votes by the full board to make it on to the ballot.

The committee meets at 10 a.m., at City Hall, in Room 263.
